Background of the Hong Kong Printers Association
The Hong Kong Printers Association (HKPA) is the longest-history and most representative printing organization in Hong Kong. Since its establishment over 70 years ago, HKPA has not only witnessed the development of the industry, but has also grown with it.
With more and more Hong Kong printers moving their production line to Mainland China, HKPA has over the years established trust and a close relationship with relevant government departments and printing organizations in Mainland China. HKPA is determined to turn the Greater Pearl River Delta into the printing centre of the world. Also, HKPA is one of the board members of World Print and Communication Forum (WPCF).
HKPA circulates industry updates through its publication, Hong Kong Print Media (HKPM) and its website <www.hkprinters.org>. It promotes Hong Kong printing industry and exchanges within the industry by organizing various functions such as seminars, study missions, luncheons, and social activities.
Advanced Printing Technology Centre (APTEC) is the subsidiary of HKPA, providing the latest technological information for printing industry through its professional training and consultation services. It is also an exclusive partner of IDEAlliance in Greater China and an Adobe Authorized Training Centre. Its representatives are the 1st batch of Fogra PSO Partner in China.

Background of Advanced Printing and Technology Centre
In September 1999, the Hong Kong Printers Association and the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Kwun Tong) jointly organized a project to assist the local printing and publishing companies to migrate to the latest digital production workflow. Based on a HK$8.58 million funding from the Innovation and Technology Fund, the Advanced Printing Technology Centre (APTEC) was established at IVE (Kwun Tong) on 3rd May, 2000.
Although the project under Innovation and Technology Fund was successfully completed on 31st January 2003, APTEC continues its services to the industry by operating in a self financing mode. Starting from 1st Feb 2003, APTEC is incorporated as a subsidiary company of the Hong Kong Printers Association and supported by Vocational Training Council, still located at the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (Kwun Tong).
With the generous support from major equipment suppliers, APTEC has set up a state-of-the-art digital printing production environment with equipment and software having a total value of HK$15 million. The scale of APTEC is comparable to similar centers in Europe and the United States.
Through various technical seminars, training courses (professional courses and Skills Upgrading Scheme Plus), testing and consultancy services, APTEC has been striving to promote a wide acceptance of digital print workflow by disseminating the latest information of digital printing technology. Since the establishment of APTEC, over 15,000 practitioners attended the training courses offered by APTEC. Now, APTEC is the only Adobe Authorized Training Centre that offers printing related courses, which indicates our professional status in the industry. In 2009, APTEC successfully passed HKCAAVQ accreditation and became one of the first private training providers in printing and publishing industries to provide SCS-based courses under the Qualifications Framework.
To increase awareness of printing standardization, IDEAlliance and APTEC have formed a partnership- "IDEAlliance-China" on the 1st of July 2007 to advance IDEAlliance Specifications across Taiwan, Macau, Hong Kong and China. APTEC serves as the exclusive partner for IDEAlliance programs in Greater China to certify G7 Master. Since 2010, APTEC has successfully obtained Germany Forga PSO Partner qualification which can conduct Forga PSO certification. It is worth mentioning that APTEC representative was appointed as the member of National Technical Committee 170 on Printing of Standardization Administration of China, and ISO TC130 expert.
